At our office, we understand that many patients feel anxious about oral surgery or dental procedures. That’s why we offer several safe and effective sedation options to help you stay relaxed and comfortable during treatment.
Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”)
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a mild and fast-acting sedative administered through a small mask placed over your nose. As you breathe normally, the blend of nitrous oxide and oxygen helps you feel calm and at ease within minutes. You may experience a light, floating sensation or mild tingling in your arms and legs.
The effects wear off quickly once the mask is removed, allowing most patients to resume normal activities shortly after their appointment. Talk to your doctor to find out if nitrous oxide is a good fit for your treatment.
IV Sedation / General Anesthesia
IV sedation, also referred to as general anesthesia, allows patients to sleep comfortably throughout their procedure. Medications are administered intravenously to induce a deep state of relaxation or sleep, so you won’t feel pain or remember the procedure.
This option is ideal for surgical procedures or for patients with high dental anxiety, complex treatment needs, or special care requirements. Your doctor will review your health history and explain the benefits to determine if IV sedation is the best choice for you.
Conscious Oral Sedation
Oral sedation offers a gentle alternative that helps you stay awake yet deeply relaxed during your visit. A prescribed oral medication is taken before the appointment to ease anxiety and promote comfort. Combined with a local anesthetic, this approach ensures minimal discomfort and a calm experience throughout treatment.
Because oral sedation can make you drowsy, you’ll need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
